Does anyone have a recipe for candied sweet potatoes?

My Grandmother always made the best candied sweet potatoes. She would use red hot candies and pour some type of syrup over them.

Unfortunately no one ever wrote down her recipe. I was wanting to make them for our Thanksgiving dinner tonight but I don’t know how and I can’t find a recipe.

Does anyone have a recipe similar to this?

Sweet potatoes are delicious no matter how you fix them. I made them this year for the first year and I just used a recipe on the back of the can. I used Bruce’s sweet potatoes and mixed in 2/3 cup of syrup from can with some brown sugar and butter. Bring that to a boil and then pour over the potatoes. I topped them with marshmellows and it was great! I’m sure you’ll make them taste just fine. Have a great holiday.

Here is one that sounds very similar ~

    RED HOT SWEET POTATOES

    1 c. sugar
    1 c. water
    1/2 to 3/4 c. red cinnamon candies
    1/2 c. butter
    Sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced

In large skillet heat sugar, water, candies and butter to boiling. Put sweet potatoes in a single layer to cover bottom of skillet. Cover and cook slowly on top of stove, about 1 hour or until potatoes are done and syrup is thick. Baste with syrup several times or turn occasionally.

    ~Hope this helps!~

These sweet potatoes are easy to make and not overly sweet. Originally submitted to ThanksgivingRecipe.com.

    INGREDIENTS:
    2 large sweet potatoes
    1/4 cup butter
    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    1/4 cup orange juice

    DIRECTIONS:
    1. Boil cut-up sweet potatoes or bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) whole sweet potatoes until tender.
    2. In a frying pan, melt the butter and brown sugar together until bubbly. Add the orange juice and stir until smooth. Add the cut-up sweet potatoes and cook slowly, turning occasionally until the sweet potatoes are caramelized, about 20 minutes. If syrup is too thin, add a bit more brown sugar.

    Grandma Elsie’s Candied Yams

This is a good side-dish for Thanksgiving or Easter meal. It will taste authentic if real butter and fresh sweet potatoes are used. It does not take cinnamon candies, but real cinnamon instead. When my grandma prepared a special family meal, someone would be there to take a picture, and then the blessing was always said before we we dug in. Her meals were picture perfect, and she was an excellent cook.
    Ingredients:
3-4 fresh sweet potatoes, boil until tender
    3 Tablespoons Butter
    1 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    2/3 Cup Water
Scrub raw sweet potatoes, and place in heavy pot. Cover potatoes with water, bring to boil, and cook until tender. Drain, allow to cool, and peel. Slice into two inch chucks. Place in lightly greased baking dish.
Bring butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water to boil. Cook for 4 minutes, making sure that you take your whisk and stir. Pour over sweet potatoes, and bake for 20 minutes in a 400 degree oven. Yum!!!
    Have A Blessed Holiday Dinner
